'Diorite Sekhmet'

Diorite Sekhmet is inspired by the Egyptian Goddess statue of Sekhmet preserved at the Egyptian Museum in Turin.

Exhibited in London at the Oxo Tower Wharf ‘ in the group show “Pandemonium & Order” curated by Cluster London Fairs in November 2022.

Small format painting on canvas representing a clear profile of the lioness deity “Sekhmet” statue depicted with acrylic and oil paint on a neutral red and background.

Sekhmet means ‘the mighty one’, and is the second statue positioned at the entrance of the Egyptian Museum in Turin and, according to one of the classical versions of the Egyptian myth, she also represented the violent as well as the healer human spiritual system element.

Term diorite identifies the material of the statuary subject.

Her dangerousness was manifested, above all, in the last five days of the year, called ‘Days of the Demons’, during which litanies were raised throughout all Egypt with the aim of taming the goddess and appeasing her devastating effects. The magical formula written in front of the subject acts as an emulation of this historical/mythological element.
